What to Do & Where to Go
Mount Batur Sunrise Trekking
A must-visit for adventure seekers. Wake up at 3 AM to hike to the top of Batur volcano and see the most beautiful sunrise in your life. The hike is not a difficult one and will take you around 2 hours. It's definitely worth it. I advise you to go further past the tourist crowds to find a more intimate place to meet the sunrise, capture some photos and enjoy this moment. This tour is often can be taken care of by your hotel. 150.000 IDR ($10)
Jatiluwih Rice Terrace
At Jatiluwih, which means 'truly marvellous', you'll be rewarded with vistas of centuries-old rice terraces that exhaust your ability to describe green. The terraces have received Unesco World Heritage status in recognition of the ancient rice-growing culture. You'll understand why by viewing the panorama from the narrow, twisting 18km road leading in and out of town, but do get out for a rice-field walk. Follow the water as it runs through channels and bamboo pipes from one plot to the next. 40.000 IDR ($2.8)
Ulun Danu Beratan Temple
One of the most beautiful temples located right on the lake. The temple is not only famous for its beautiful lake and mountain views but also for its history as a place of worship for a Balinese river goddess and to the Hindu god, Shiva. This place is very photogenic and has a great atmosphere. 50.000 IDR ($3.5)
Wanagiri Hidden Hills
A popular tourist attraction that is located on top of the mountain and is famous for its stunning panoramic viewpoints over the lakes. This place is booming on lnstagram as it has wide variety of photo spots such as swings, nests, bow of a boat and treehouses. 100.000 IDR ($7.1)
Twin Lake View
A panoramic spot overlooking Buyan and Mablingan lakes. It's relatively unknown spot, however it's located not far from Wanagiri Hidden Hill - one of the most popular spots on the island for photographs. So it's typically pretty crowded with tourists!
Handara Gate
This gate became iconic for tourists visiting Bali. However, this location has no historical significance as it is just an entrance to a golf resort. In Hinduism gates like these symbolize an entrance from the outer world to a holy temple. The best time to visit this place is an early morning (around 8 AM) because if you come later there can be a big queue of other travelers who also want a photo. 20.000 IDR ($1.4)
Sekumpul
Sekumpul is the king of all waterfalls as it is the tallest splashing down from 80 meters. This waterfall is stunning to see both from the observation points above and right at its foot below. Deserving a swim at Sekumpul will require a 15-20 minute hike. Go from the Lemukih village Southern entrance to avoid scamming fake registration points that insist on hiring a guide and paying expensive tickets minimum 125.000 ($9).
Fiji Waterfall is located in a 15-minute walk from the king of Bali waterfalls Sekumpul and it's a hidden gem as it's highly underrated and overlooked due to Sekumpul's popularity. It actually consists of three waterfalls right next to each other accompanied by two shallow water pools for a refreshing dive.
Lovina Sunrise Dolphin
A tour to enjoy watching dolphins at natural habitat with sunrise view at Lavina beach. It's better to spend a night before in Lavina area, as a typical morning here starts before sunrise - you'll have to get up very early and arrive to the beach at 5.30 AM. After putting life vests on, your boat heads out into the bay. In the middle of the sea, the engines are stopped and the waiting game begins. As soon as the boatmen see the dolphins, the chasing starts. It is indeed a wonderful experience being in the boat surrounded by playful dolphins. 100.000 IDR ($7.1)
Nungnung Waterfall
Nungnung waterfall leaves you speechless as it has the most powerful stream of water. We tried standing under the stream and it was a very special experience. The hike includes a staircase of 509 steps, so it requires a good physical shape. The water pool here is the best for a swim though. A real jaw-dropping experience.
Leke Leke Waterfall
Leke Leke is a tall waterfall with a thin stream making it look very elegant and good for photos. Good paths and well made stairs. Beautiful lush and tropical scenery. This one looks cooler on photos than in reality though. 50.000 IDR ($3.5)
Aling-Aling Waterfall
For those of you who are in an adventurous spirit - this waterfall is the best option. Aling-Aling is a very beautiful waterfall to visit, but what makes it only better are 3 other waterfalls in a walking distance where you can jump from the cliffs. Kroya, Kembar, and Pucuk waterfalls have Sm, 10m, and 15m height cliffs from which you can face your fear, take a step forward, and get that sweet taste of freedom (don't do it without a guide as many things can go wrong with cliff jumping). 125.000 IDR ($8.9)
